Tips for Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

Tips for Choosing a Plastic Surgeon

W. Cooper Scurry, Jr., MDAs with any surgery, it is important to choose a certified, experienced physician to perform your procedure to ensure you get the best possible care and results. We’re here to make sure you have a great experience with your procedure, whatever you choose to have done. Here are a few things to look for when choosing a plastic surgeon.

  • Choose a physician who is board certified. Here at PENTA Facial Plastic Surgery Center, you will hear us talk a lot about our board-certified physicians. Dr. Cooper Scurry is board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. So what exactly does all that mean? In order to sit for boards, a physician must first meet the education requirements, which for plastic surgeons consists of 16 years of post-high school education and specific training. Then they will sit for a two-day oral examination, as well as being evaulated on their ethical standing and safe and effective approach to surgery.
It’s important to remember that complications can happen with any surgery, but choosing a board certified surgeon is one way to help ensure you get the best results possible.
  • Look at years of experience. As with any type of profession, the more years a person has been at the job, the more practice they’ve had doing procedures. When choosing a surgeon it is a good idea to ask for their years of experience, specifically in the types of procedures you’re interested in.
  • Ask to see before and after photos. You want to choose a surgeon who has similar aesthetic goals as yourself. One way to get a feel for how your results will be is to look at before and after photos of other clients.
  • Make sure you feel comfortable with the doctors and staff in the office. When you choose to have a procedure done, you will be interacting with many people in addition to the surgeon. It’s important that you feel comfortable with everyone involved, from the staff that greet you when you come in to the techs who will assist the surgeon during surgery. At PENTA Facial Plastic Surgery Center we pride ourselves on friendly customer service with a welcoming and comfortable environment.
